The Ontario Superior Court has approved the Class Action Settlement in the suit against Yahoo! Inc. and Yahoo! Canada Co. The lawsuit was brought by class members in reaction to data breaches that impacted the company between 2013 and 2016.
The suit alleged that Yahoo was unable to implement adequate security measures to guard the personal information of users. The plaintiffs claimed that Yahoo’s negligence caused the breaches, which posed significant risk and creating inconvenience to users affected.
Yahoo has denied any wrongdoing, but complied with the settlement to prevent the possibility of. - Users who incur expenses within the first four months after receiving any notice of data breach may claim a cash refund.
- Compensation is an hourly rate of $25 for up to five hours of work to mitigate the consequences of the breaches, which can be amounted to a maximum of 15 hours. You can claim up to $375 in the event that you were impacted by the three breaches.
